Determining the characteristic curve of a battery

Description

Load resistors having different resistances are hooked up to a typical (flat 4.5 V) battery. The current through the battery and the voltages across the battery and the resistor are measured for each resistor.


Data was taken with two volt-meters and an ammeter. U_s is the voltage across the battery (terminal voltage), U_L is the voltage measured across the load resistor. The ammeter A measures the charge current through the circuit. The diagram below shows the battery characterisitc (current versus terminal voltage).
