The Main Case in this chapter deals with chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) in the atmosphere. They are—or have been—used as refrigerants or propellant gases in spray devices. They have some detrimental effects. One of them is that they destroy ozone in the upper layers of the atmosphere (the stratosphere).
Main Case
Substances in the environment, the human body, or in industrial systems provide for many more real-life applications of chemical dynamical processes. Just think of toxic waste in ground water, medical drugs in the human body, the electrochemistry of nerve impulses, or the operation of batteries and fuel cells.
