GLOSSARY
ELASTANCE

Description
The slope of the p-V relation of a fluid stored in a container. It tells us how fast the pressure of the fluid changes with a change of volume. In an elastic container (balloon, diapragm accumulator, cranium (the skull with brain), large blood vessels, heart?) it measures the stiffness of the walls. It is equal to the inverse of the capacitance.

Units
[alpha_V] = Pa/m^3

Remarks
Used in medicine (fluid storage and pressure response in heart, blood vessels, cranium). Applicable to hydraulics in general.
